Preakness Preview: The Chrome Show

Kentucky Derby Horse Racing

Sorry for the late post, I’ll keep this quick because there’s not much to say. As long as California Chrome stays healthy and get decently clean trips, he WILL win the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978. The Preakness, much like the Derby, is a speed heavy race with half the traffic. Once again, California Chrome can sit in behind the leaders, stay out of trouble, and Jose Lezcano can wave to the other jockeys as he cruises by them because he’s pretty much just along for the ride. California Chrome is just in is own class.

Of the speed horses who will be at the front right from the start, I think Bayern can hang on to finish in the money. He’s inexperienced but 5 months ago he was on the fast track for the derby until Bob Baffert decided he needed a brief layoff. Social Inclusion hasn’t proved much in his 3 career races, but he is the 2nd choice in the odds just for his class and his potential. My longshot play is Kid Cruz. He can close late and the number of horses gunning for the front out of the gate means the door will be open for him late.

My Bets:

$0.50 Pick 4 starting in race 9 and ending in the Preakness. We’re gonna have to get fancy to make some money due to California Chrome’s odds. — Starting in Race 9: 7-10 / 2-3-10 / 3-6-8 / 3 (total of $9). I tried to leave as many good prices in there as I could.

Preakness Trifecta: 3 with 5-7-8 with 5-7-8.

And I’m gonna throw some money on Kid Cruz to show, and Bayern if he floats above 10-1.

Good luck, win some money, and get your culture touched.
