Sorry for our absence yesterday, I know everyone outside the state of Massachusetts was missing their daily touch of culture. However, those inside the state were getting at least triple their daily dose of culture. That’s because yesterday was the most cultural day of the year in Massachusetts; Marathon Monday. Here is the definitive list of what makes this day so cultural year after year:
Boston-
Oh let’s just host a 26 mile run going through one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Let’s run down Comm Ave, one of the nicest streets in the state, leading downtown, past the Charles River, and finishing right in the heart of the city.
Community-
Everyone comes together. Every step of the 26.2 has at least one fan there cheering. Everyone is rooting for the same team. Yesterday, a man couldn’t finish the race because of dehydration, and fellow runners carried him to the finish line, even though it hurt their final time. Runners raised over 1 million dollars for the Martin Richard Foundation! I partied at Lasell College. I know one kid there, yet they allwelcomed me with open arms, because it’s Marathon monday. 500 people in a big quad, drinking, dancing, and enjoying the day.
The Food-
Burgers, dogs, beer. It’s only the beginning of Spring, but Marathon Monday gives us a taste of Summer every year.
Red Sox Day Game-
Sox play at 11 every Marathon Monday. Genius. So much culture. You can go to the game in the morning, walk outside, and have 20,000 runners cut you off. And now every year they are going to honor the Marathon Bombing Victims before the game. Going to make this day even more special.
The Drinking-
It’s ok to drink from 12-5 when everyone in the State is doing it….
The Girls
Sundress season has officially arrived! White shorts have not officially arrived but have made appearances! Crop tops with stomach’s showing time is back! Life is good.
The Nap
The 5-8 o’clock nap on Marathon Monday is a personal tradition, and is the best way to cap off the day. With school in the morning, this nap is essential.
