This prank comes from Aquinas College in Michigan and it is easily the best, most awkward April Fools prank I’ve seen this year. This professor has a policy that if a student’s phone rings in class, you have to answer it on speaker phone. I’m sure this professor never expected this policy to even come into play more than once a year, nevermind blow up in his face quite like this. Classic Charles move, never underestimate how bad something could actually backfire.
This guy just wanted a clever way to tell his class that he doesn’t allow cell phones, without sounding like a douche from day one. I respect it, but he totally got burned by something he thought would be completely harmless and could shame people into staying off their phones.
My opinion: You’re in college. You’re an adult. If you think you can afford to check an email or send a tweet on your phone during class time without it affecting you’re education (which is the case most of the time), go ahead and do it. The teacher works for you, not the other way around.
