David Ortiz’s contract is up after this season, and it is a surprise that the Sox and David haven’t reached an extension. The common “media” blames David Ortiz, claiming he is asking for too much money. Here is what David had to say about it:
“I don’t even know why they’re bitching about me talking about contracts. Guys putting up my numbers, they’re making $25 (million), $30 million. I’m not asking for that. I’m asking for half of it. And they’re still bitching about it? Fuck them. I’m tired of hearing them shit talk about me when I talk about my contract. Hey, every time I talk about my contract, I earn it, bitch. So don’t be giving me that motherfucker.”
Preach David, Preach! I am completely on David’s side here. He is the reason why we won the World Series this past year. He is consistently in the top 10 in the league in RBI’s, and OPS. I’ve heard he is asking for 3 years, 45 million. Yes, he is old and 3 years seems like a long time, but so what. He’ll retire a red sox, and be a legend in Boston forever. I hate the over-anxious sportswriters (cough Dan Shaughnessy cough) who always blame the player automatically in these situations. Good for Big Papi for lashing out at those motherfuckers.
