Madam C.J Walker, 1867-1919
Madam Walker was the first African American female millionaire in United States history. She was a self made entrepreneur and made her money by developing, manufacturing, and selling a line of beauty products for black women.
She didnt settle down with her money and disappear as many do. Walker started Lelia College which was a school aiming to teach black women how to run a business. Before she died, she donated most of her money to the local YMCA, schools, orphanages, and retirement homes. Madam CJ Walker was a hardworking, determined, culture changing person, yet she did not let money dictate who she was. She is a role model for us here at TMC, and should be for you too.
