Ernest Thompson Seton received an unusual “gift” on his 21st birthday, a bill accounting every single expense since his birth. It was so specific that it even included the medical expenses from his birth. The total was $537.50. What did Ernest do? He paid it and never spoke to his father again.
I don’t even know where to begin with this one… I can’t decide what’s more impressive, the fact that the dad actually went out of his way to write down every single expense or that he actually paid it. What I’m most curious about is the inspiration behind all this. I mean I could understand if Ernest was a little shit but still, how does it get to the point where he thought to himself “you know what, this kid is paying me back… all of it.” And to make matters worse, the asshole made him pay 6% interest. This guy makes Casey Anthony look like a decent parent.
Ernest on his father, “one who knew the price of everything and the value of nothing.”
Takeaway: Be grateful for your parents.
Amazing! I’m glad the son paid and then never spoke to him again. It’s what he deserved. Paying showed his contempt for his father.
